Fall for Frasier

Columnist finds calm in the NBC show Frasier and wants you to do the same.

At the end of a long stressful day, my most favorite thing in the universe is to climb into bed, enjoy one tincture drop of CBD (okay two) and watch something funny and familiar. I struggle with anxiety like every human on earth, it’s the perfect remedy to help with my keyed up brain and helps me laugh my way to a steady slumber. Basically, my sensory blankie. My typical go-to’s are probably the same as yours: Friends or The Office. Throw either one on and call it a day. Or night, right? ⁣

Plagued by the fact that Mike and I have fallen asleep to both complete seasons of Friends and The Office far too many nights in a row, we decided it was time to branch out and find a new show to slightly doze off to (I know, Mike and I are straight up wild). ⁣

Enter Dr. Frasier Crane to ease my post-summer restlessness. ⁣

To be clear, I'm very aware that this show was a number one hit and a pillar for NBC programming for years but I missed Frasier in is heyday. I vaguely remember my parents chuckling to one of Niles pithy comebacks, but I was too young to really get it. ⁣

Nothing has put a smile on my face and laughter in my heart faster than watching this successful Boston therapist, move to Seattle eager to gain a new start on his life (have I mentioned I’m lame?). From dealing with his therapeutic radio talk show, which he uses to relay his wit and wisdom to help others, to watching him struggle with his own problems with his salt-of-the-earth father, his pretentious brother Niles and his friends and coworkers that are fashion geniuses well before their own time Daphne and Roz. What took me so long to dive into this nineties early aughts gem?⁣

I feel weirdly close to Frasier and delighted to live vicariously through him. He wants what we all long for peace, quiet, love, culture, a bit of sherry after work. Okay, maybe not the sherry but a glass of Sav Blanc is a more than suitable substitute. ⁣

A simpler time when a dog staring at you too often was one of the harder hurdles you had to overcome in your day. ⁣

So, this Fall I invite you to chow down on some tossed salads and scrambled eggs while you doze off. They truly are calling again.
